Increasingly, consumers are live streaming sporting events at unprecedented scale. A prime example is Amazon's successful streaming of Thursday Night Football last fall with reported average audiences of 10+ million. Given streaming’s flexibility, it's clear live streaming is on a course to eclipse traditional broadcast viewing. In light of this trend, Qwilt has gathered broad industry insights through a recent survey of 300+ content publishers about their live streaming requirements for large scale events and will share those in this session. Furthermore, with a vision for the future of streaming, Qwilt has collaborated with the Streaming Video Technology Alliance to create Open Caching, a model designed to provide scale and quality for live streaming to flourish. Open Caching begins with collaborative partnerships with service providers in which caching nodes are deeply embedded in their networks, closer to users than ever before. Deployed with over 150 service providers worldwide and serving over 1 billion users with 100+ Tbps of all-edge capacity, Qwilt has delivered a wide range of live sporting events and will share best practices.
