Much attention is given to the better picture and better audio capabilities of ATSC3.0. However, there are other tools in the ATSC 3 standard that enable broadcasters to bring new value-added services to their viewers.

In this paper, we will explore some key capabilities leveraged for our Radio over ATSC 3 proof of concept project. More specifically, we will explore the ‘UserDefined’ capability of A/331, ‘Link Mapping Table’ in A/330 and NRT services for delivering radio services. In addition, we will discuss deficiencies in the ATSC 3 standard that will need to be remedied. We will also report on our experience with current generation of ATSC 3 receivers and what modifications were needed for our radio project. Finally, we will do a short demonstration of our radio POC.
