In 2019, at the start of the pandemic, Fox Sports embarked on an adventure to transform how they would cover major sporting events. The Fox Sports Joint Event (FSJE) system was born out of this – believed to be the world’s largest SMPTE ST 2110 uncompressed IP video live production flypack. A massive system with 40 8-foot racks in the core and 10 standalone venue racks, this system was used to cover the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, the 2023 Super Bowl in Glendale, Arizona and will be used to cover the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand later this year.
This presentation will look at the challenges of designing and building this system and the benefits it brings to live event coverage. We’ll examine how ST 2110 makes this concept possible, and how this system has proven the interoperability of ST 2110 and the ability to rapidly construct and deploy ST 2110 systems, and how IP and software-defined systems are transforming live sports coverage.
