Deputy Director at California Film & Television Tax Credit Program

Nancy Rae Stone’s extensive experience as a filmmaker prepared her for her role as Deputy Director of the California Film & Television Tax Credit Program. As Deputy Director, she is responsible for overseeing all aspects of California’s $330 million per year incentive program, which she helped develop and launch in 2009. Since then, the program has generated approximately $23 Billion dollars in direct production spending across the Golden State. As part of her work with the tax credit program, Ms. Stone has also led the development of statewide training programs that help Californians from underserved communities gain access to career opportunities in the production industry. 

Before joining the California Film Commission, Ms. Stone spent more than two decades working as a producer, studio executive and consultant.  As an independent producer, her credits include festival favorite and BAFTA nominee The Last Seduction starring Linda Fiorentino, who won the NY Film Critics Circle Best Actress Award. She also produced Femme Fatale starring Colin Firth, Playing God starring Angelina Jolie, and American Heart starring Jeff Bridges.  Most recently, she served as Executive Producer of 2014’s Words &Pictures starring Clive Owen and Juliette Binoche, which was released theatrically by Roadside Attractions. 

Ms. Stone also spent nearly a decade as Executive Vice President of Production at Beacon Pictures, where she supervised the physical production of several films that achieved global theatrical success. Credits include Spy Game ($143M) starring Robert Redford and Brad Pitt, the cheerleading drama Bring It On ($90M) starring Kirsten Dunst, The Family Man ($143M) starring Nicholas Cage and Don Cheadle, and the Cuban missile crisis drama13 Days ($66M) starring Kevin Costner. Ms. Stone supervised productions with budgets ranging from $4 to $90 million in international locales including Romania, Russia, Hungary, Morocco, the Philippines, Britain, Scotland, Canada and New Zealand, as well as many locales within the United States including, of course, beautiful California.
