Lead Technologist at British Broadcast Corporation

Nigel Earnshaw has worked for the BBC in London for over 20 years, representing the BBC in various standards bodies including TV-Anytime and DVB and coordinating technical work within EU projects.  He is a Lead Technologist within the BBC R&D department, specializing in areas of rights management, device trust and security protocols and has designed trust models for commercial consumer devices in use today.

He currently works within the BBC's R&D Advisory Team, assessing the potential impact of new and emerging technologies on the media industry. In this role, he leads BBC R&D's strategic positioning on Web3 and Distributed Ledger Technologies. He is part of Project Origin and participates in the technical group of the Coalition for Content Provence and Authenticity (C2PA).  Nigel graduated from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom with a Ph.D in 1991 working with the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence on ground-based air surveillance radar techniques.
