McGee, Stephen

Director/Cinematographer/Photographer

Stephen McGee is a two time National Emmy Award winning Director/Cinematographer/Photographer/Dad. His state of the art approach to documentary visual storytelling is distinct. It’s visceral. His focus on symmetry and balance in the frame embraces experimentation without losing focus on the humanity at the heart of it.

Whether its just him and a camera or leading 20 person crews,  McGee runs his productions with thankfulness, respect and dignity to each other, the subjects and the craft.

McGee mostly works direct with the clients who approach him for 2-3 minute films which he caries from concept to final edit. His clients include Goldman Sachs, Intel, Ford, Under Armour and his footage can be seen in commercial spots for Lamborghini, Aston Martin, A Dodge Super Bowl, JJ Abrams, Gucci and Puma. He's worked in 40 countries, in post conflict societies, with world leaders, news organizations, foundations, non profits, ngos, celebrities and civic leaders.

In 2017 McGee was selected as an innovative cinematographer out of thousands of international filmmakers by the most advanced and respected camera companies in the world for $145k of gear. Just 10 years ago he only had a canon 5d and now McGee is supported by brands including Fujifilm, Fujinon, Red, Shotover, Freefly, Sachtler, Litepanels, Anton Bauer and Sony. McGee helped launch the Fujinon MK lenses, Fuji H2S and the Red Komodo.

In late 2023 McGee's photography documentation of the rebirth of the Michigan Central Station (MCS) will be shown at the Detroit Institute of Arts in a large show. MCS, one of the most recognizable abandoned buildings in Detroit and used for Transformers, Batman Vs Superman, and dozens of other films, was bought by Ford Motor Company in 2017. McGee has been in charge of the documentation of the rehab of the building with photography and video.

McGee has a deep connection to Detroit having documented the resurgence for nearly 20 years with 2,000,000 images and video which he plans to turn into a feature documentary film he's calling Resurgo, Latin for I rise Again.  As part of the marketing education and engagement components, Resurgo will have an Ai, AR experience, a photography Book and interactive globe traveling illuminated photography installation.

He lives a life dedicated to following Jesus' teachings and spends his time supporting his world traveling professional BMX freestyle athlete wife.
