Bouqueau, Romain
Romain Bouqueau is CEO of media technology provider Motion Spell SARL, based in Paris. Founded in 2012, the company is the exclusive commercial licensor of GPAC, an open source, standards-focused, professional-grade software that provides tools for processing, inspecting, packaging, encrypting, streaming, playing back, and interacting with media content. Romain has been a long time evangelist for the use of open source software, and is an advocate for its use in commercial broadcast, video streaming, OTT and VR applications.
After working at building IP transcoders in the mid 2000s at Allegro DVT (now part of Ateme), he joined the team of world renowned experts on standardization in the media industry who maintained GPAC OSS. He has participated in important standardization efforts at MPEG and is a co-author of the fMP4, MPEG2-TS, DASH, HEVC and CENC international standards. He is one of the principal contributors to the GPAC project, which features the award-winning MP4Box software (a Swiss Army knife for the ISOBMFF/MP4 multimedia container format) and a full playback infrastructure. GPAC OSS is the reference standard for the MP4 file format and was chosen by industry leaders such as Youtube, Netflix, Sony, x264, Philips, Cisco, Ericsson, General Motors, Fox, and many others.
